📊 Assessment at Newhall Infant and Nursery School

At Newhall, we carefully track every child’s progress to ensure they are happy, supported and achieving their best 💛

We use a combination of ongoing assessment and key checkpoints throughout the year to monitor development and plan next steps.

🌱 Early Years (Nursery & Reception)

In Reception, children are assessed from when they start school to understand their individual starting points 🧩

    • A baseline assessment is carried out in September ✏️
    • Progress is reviewed regularly across the year 📅
    • Teachers use ClassDojo an online learning journal, to record learning and share progress with parents 📸
    • Parents are encouraged to contribute and celebrate achievements from home 🏠💬

Children are assessed across all areas of learning, and at the end of Reception they are judged as:

    • 🌟 Emerging
    • 🌟 Expected

We also share information with Year 1 staff to ensure a smooth transition into the next stage of learning 🚸

    📚 Key Stage 1 (Year 1 & Year 2)

In Years 1 and 2, children’s learning is assessed through a mix of daily classroom work and termly assessment points 📝

    ✏️ Core Subjects

    • Writing – assessed through independent pieces of work each term ✍️
