“Play is the highest form of research.”
Albert Einstein
At Newhall Infant and Nursery School, continuous provision is central to our approach to teaching and learning. It provides children with consistent, highβquality resources that enable them to explore, investigate and learn independently. These resources remain available over time, giving children the freedom to revisit concepts, deepen understanding and build confidence through purposeful play.
Our learning environments—indoors and outdoors—are thoughtfully designed to offer rich, child-led, play-based experiences that nurture curiosity, independence, resilience and a love of learning.
Our Reception continuous provision is shared across both classrooms and our Early Years outdoor area, which we use alongside our Nursery. These spacious, well-resourced areas allow children to move freely, make choices, and follow their interests. Staff work collaboratively across the phases to support all children as they explore and discover.

Opportunities for mark-making, counting, problem-solving and early writing are woven throughout every area of provision, enabling children to apply their learning meaningfully.
Continuous provision in KS1 is carefully planned to work alongside adult-led teaching. It is an integrated part of the curriculum, not an added extra.
Children use these environments to practise, embed and apply key skills and knowledge across subjects, supporting deeper learning and independence.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to flourish.
