What’s happening in Term 1 ?
Are you ready for Monster Mayhem ? WE ARE !
In Literacy we are going monster crazy, finishing the term with a monster themed party - more of that later !
To start with we are reading and enjoying books about the Loch Ness monster and then we are going to be writing our own monster themed story. After that we are going to be Monster Explorers using adjectives to write descriptions of them. Then we are going to be experimenting with rhymes and poetry, especially Revolting Rhymes ! We will finish this block by planning and holding a monster party where we will be allowed to come to school dressed up as a monster !
Our UK geography theme is based around the Loch Ness Monster, Scotland and Scottish islands.
We will be researching these places using books, the internet and ipads and also closely looking at maps and globes to locate these and other key places and seas in and around the UK and the world. We will also be making our own real and imaginary maps and devising our own keys. We will finish off by creating a monster island map and use a compass to plot a route around it!
We are doing Art with Mrs Lerigo this term when we will be learning about the Scottish artist Jolomo . In DT we will be making our own monster truck to explore our islands.
In Numeracy we are continuing working hard following the New Curriculum 2014 and we will soon be having numeracy challenge homework to take home.
The Science theme is Animals including Humans and we will be learning all about life cycles of animals and humans and how to stay healthy. I Computer Science we will be programming Beebots, using the camera and ipads to take photos and researching on the ipads using Safesearch.
In music we will be enjoying singing old and new Autumn songs and getting ready for our Harvest Festival where we will also be doing a country dancing demonstration for our guests to watch. As well as this we are doing games skills in P.E.
In RE will we be learning more about different festivals and customs including Eid and our own Harvest Festival.
What a busy first term we have planned !
